Just days before their first match of the 2014 World Cup competition, German captain Philipp Lahm said he was in good form and fully recovered from a foot injury which he sustained during the German Cup final on May 17

The German national soccer team looked settled into their World Cup competition, just days before their first match of the 2014 competition.

Players were seen taking a boat trip around the island of Santo Andre and then took a walk on the beach.

Captain Philipp Lahm said he was on good form and fully recovered from a foot injury which he sustained during the German Cup final on May 17. "A sportsman is seldom free of complaints, but I feel good. I can, I even played 45 minutes on Friday. As I said before, no one needs to worry about me. I feel good, my foot is well and for me the World Cup can start now," Lahm said.

Asked about whether the teams from South America would have sort of home advantage, midfielder Andre Schurrle said the German team also had its own "special motivation". "I am not sure if the South American teams have that big an advantage because a lot of the South American players play in Europe, so they don't have these circumstances every weekend so I don't think this will be an excuse. I think that it is special motivation to become the first Europeans to win the title and so we will do our best and see where we end up," he said at the news conference.

Lahm also said the team was dealing well with the new climate conditions, saying that he didn't expect the heat and humidity to cause any problems.

"We clearly have to say that he circumstances are different, but we were prepared for that. We got enough time before the first match to completely acclimatise. In the training sessions we got an idea of how it will be. I am not worried at all. I think the team will deal with these circumstances with a very good attitude," he said.

Germany will play their first game on June 16 against Portugal in Salvador. They will also face Ghana and USA in Group G.
