The San Francisco 49ers advanced to Super Bowl XLVII, the team's sixth Super Bowl appearance. San Francisco's six Super Bowl appearances are the second-most in the NFC, trailing only the Dallas Cowboys' eight.
The 49ers have won five Super Bowls, tied with the Cowboys for the second-most in NFL history. The Pittsburgh Steelers have won a league-best six Super Bowls.
"There is a great 49ers history with our team and we're proud of that," says head coach JIm Harbaugh, who has guided San Francisco to consecutive appearances in the NFC Championship Game in his first two seasons.

Patriots Look to Continue Winning Tradition
The AFC East champion New England Patriots finished the 2012 season with a 12-4 record and became the second team in NFL history to win at least 10 games in nine consecutive seasons, joining the 1983-98 San Francisco 49ers (16 seasons).
Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, who is the first head coach in NFL history to lead a team to 10+ victories in 10 consecutive seasons, has instilled a winning formula in New England.
"Coach Belichick always talks about doing your job," says Patriots Pro Bowl quarterback TOM BRADY. "You do your job so that everyone around you can do their job. When people trust each other, then you can play with anticipation and confidence and ultimately go out there and play aggressively. There's really no secret to it. Coach puts a lot of pressure on us in practice every day to perform at a high level. I think the guys bring that attitude every day and over the course of a long season, it results in enough wins to get us into the playoffs and it gives us a chance."

Patriots Pro Bowl linebacker JEROD MAYO, who served as a defensive co-captain for New England last season, says the team's continued success is a result of the entire organization working towards one common goal.
"If you want to be a good football team, you'll never be stuck in rush-hour traffic," says Mayo. "You are the first one here and the last one to leave. I think guys really buy into that, guys that come from other teams, I think they follow the lead of the bulk of this team and it has worked well here."
