"I feel he probably is the best coach of all time," says New England Patriots Owner Robert Kraft. "Bill's ability to assess value and build depth sets him apart. I really do think managing in this era is so much tougher than when there wasn't free agency.
"What's great about him is that he doesn't just know the X's and O's, but understands the economics of the game, how the salary cap works and how to evaluate talent from the point of view of having been a special-teams coach and a defensive coach."
