Sparkling Winter Style
Sloshing through the office in snow boots may not be considered appropriate. And really, sometimes our weatherproof clothes make us feel like we’re anything but stylish during the winter months. Luckily, this fashion team can rescue you from the style and fashion blues with some key items that will keep you warm -- and chic.
Chunky Knit Cardigan
A thickly woven wrap sweater or cardigan never goes out of style – and it will always keep you warm. You can easily find a comfy and chic sweater at any price point. We’re partial to soft gray shades that you can pair with dress pants, skirts and office-appropriate dark-wash trouser jeans. Spice up your look with a belt cinched at your natural waist.
Camel Coat
Not all of us can afford to have multiple winter coats, but if you make one investment this season, it should be in a natural-toned topper. With any length or cut (either peacoat length or a longer trench cut are classics), you’ll look pulled together -- even if you just walked into the office on the morning of a dreaded wintry mix.
Playful Hat
Your chapeau is a great way to add a little self-expression to what may feel like boring and neutral outerwear. Have some fun picking it out -- it’s not like you’ll be wearing it to your morning staff meeting. Go for something fur-trimmed and glam, or try a bright cap with a pom-pom. Have a few in rotation and you’ll never get bored or cold.
Fantastic Scarf
Silk or wool, a wrap around your neck can add instant glamour to any winter wear. Apply the same cap-picking mentality to your choice of scarves. Mix up draping and knotting styles and don’t feel like your scarf, hat and gloves need to match. Get creative! Word to the wise: If you choose to spend money on something cashmere, be sure to keep track of it.
Opaque Tights
Layering is key during the winter months. There are so many fun, patterned tights out there right now that can up the fashion quotient of your plain black dress. Or you can always go with a noir choice. The same rule applies to leggings. Just remember to keep the oversized-sweater and jeggings combo for the weekend.
Knee-high Boots
Unless you are truly shuffling through feet of snow on a regular basis, you can stay warm and chic with a classic knee-high, riding-style boot. They’re great with dresses and tights and over leggings or jeans. Stick with a flat heel -- it’s better for maneuvering across slick surfaces.
