Spa Treatments From Your Kitchen

Citrus, honey, vodka and sugar. While the mention of these tasty treats might have you daydreaming of your favorite cocktail, they are also the core ingredients in my favorite body care recipes.

1. Zesty Sugar Hand Scrub

Sugar acts as a natural exfoliant, while the citrus and oil work together to brighten your skin and fingernails.

What you need

3/4 cup organic sugar

1/4 cup grapefruit juice

1/4 cup grape seed oil

1 teaspoon honey

4 grapefruit slices

What you do

Combine ingredients in a large bowl. Dip a grapefruit slice in the mixture and apply to hands. Follow the treatment with a washcloth soaked in lukewarm water.

2. Grapefruit Foot Tonic

Follow these directions diligently and your feet will be as soft as feathers.

What you need

1/2 cup granulated sugar

2 limes (one sliced in wheels, the other halved)

1 gallon grapefruit juice (no pulp)

1-ounce pour of vodka

1 sliced grapefruit

What you do

Pour 1/4 cup of sugar into a small bowl and place lime half on top. Heat the grapefruit juice on the stove or in the microwave until warm, but not hot. Pour heated juice into a large basin, add the shot of vodka, and garnish with sliced grapefruit and lime. Soak feet for a few minutes. Then, dip a lime half into the sugar and squeeze out a bit of the juice. Use lime to gently apply sugar to feet in a circular motion to exfoliate rough skin. Repeat with remaining sugar and the other lime half. Rinse well. Follow with your favorite lotion.

3. Citrus Body Oil

This fragrant concoction cleanses and rejuvenates, but be careful! The essential oils can cause sun sensitivity so be sure to wear sunscreen.

What you need

1 ounce jojoba oil

10 drops grapefruit essential oil

5 drops tangerine essential oil

2 drops lemon essential oil

What you do

Mix ingredients together and apply to skin after shower. Store leftovers in an airtight container.
