Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning agreed to his third, and perhaps final, contract with the team Saturday, reportedly inking to a five-year, $90 million pact.
Manning has led the Colts to a Super Bowl XLI victory and is justifiably considered to be among the all-time greats at the position.
The season is coming quickly, thanks to the protracted labor talks, but the team expects Manning to be able to compete quickly and at his usual high level.
"Like a professional, like he always does, in a first-class manner, work harder than any man on the planet to get himself ready faster than anybody, (but) he's not ready right now," Colts coach Jim Caldwell said before the quarterback agreed to the pact.
"Nobody works any harder, nobody is more diligent, more dedicated and he certainly has great faith in our staff that works with him here and at some point in time he'll be ready to go and when that is, we'll turn him loose."
Manning's career numbers are remarkable, as he has completed nearly 65 percent of his passes for over 54,000 yards and 399 touchdowns to just 198 interceptions.
