The Houston Astros are getting worse while all their trade partners appear to be getting better.

The Astros made a pair of trades over the weekend that bolstered the rosters of two National League powers while leaving the Astros a gutted bunch.

On Friday Houston sent Hunter Pence to the Phillies for three minor leaguers. In exchange for arguably their best player, the Astros got a pair of Class A players and a player to be named later.

Houston was not done dealing and on Sunday morning it traded Michael Bourn to the Braves for more prospects.

The dealing may not be done as pitchers Brett Myers and Wandy Rodriguez could still be dealt if they clear waivers.

The trades of Pence and Bourn come at a tough time for the Astros.

Houston just went 2-8 on a 10-game road trip and are 12-39 in their last 51 games, matching the worst stretch in team history, tying what the expansion Colt .45s of 1962.

Soon-to-be owner Jim Crane has has handed down the mandate to slash payroll and that hes left the Astros with a shell of a major league team.

The Astros have the worst record in baseball and it will get no better down the stretch with Pence and Bourn gone.
