Flavorful Food Without Salt Or Salty Ingredients Recipe

Here's how you can make your food burst with flavor without ever using salt.

First, be sure to use a flavor-enhancing cooking method, such as roasting, grilling or caramelizing. Then get creative with your seasonings.

Here are some of my favorite seasonings to substitute for salt and salty ingredients

Citrus

Some freshly squeezed lemon, lime or orange juice will accentuate the natural flavor of foods and add sparkle. A small amount of good-quality sherry vinegar or balsamic vinegar can be used in the same way.

Herbs

Fresh or dried, herbs boost flavor. Consider making a salt-free pesto in your food processor with fresh basil leaves, garlic, pine nuts and olive oil. Add it to pasta, soups, salads and more.

Garlic

Roast whole garlic cloves or saute minced garlic in olive oil to add intense flavor to savory dishes.

Make-your-own soy sauce

If low-sodium soy sauce is still too much for you, create your own Asian seasoning sauce for stir-frys and other dishes using fresh grated ginger blended with sesame oil, rice vinegar and a touch of molasses or brown sugar.

Seasoning Blends

Experiment with salt-free seasoning blends available at the supermarket or gourmet grocers. Penzys.com offers a variety of spices.
