Syracuse Survives UNC-Asheville

A No. 1 seed has never fallen to a No. 16 seed at the NCAA Tournament.
That's still true, though No. 1 Syracuse had to hold off UNC-Asheville 72-65 Thursday despite trailing at the half and playing poorly throughout.
James Southerland scored 15 points and a season-high eight rebounds for the victors, who trailed by four points at the break but outscored their foe 42-31 in the second half.
Minus academically ineligible Fab Melo for the remainder of the tourney, the Orange will have to play better to beat Kansas State in the second round.
UNC-Asheville even got within four points late, but a pair of poor officiating calls cost the team dearly and left upset-hungry fans jeering.
J.P. Primm led the Bulldogs with 18 points, while Jaron Lane added 16.
The Bulldogs finished 24-10, while the Orange improved to 32-2.
