Milwaukee, WI
The St. Louis Cardinals booked their spot in the World Series after overwhelming the Milwaukee Brewers, 12-6, Sunday in Game 6 of their National League Championship Series at Miller Park.
The Cardinals completed their improbable return to the World Series after beating National League powerhouse Milwaukee Brewers in six games.
Powered by first baseman Albert Pujols, left fielder Allen Craig, and eventual series MVP David Freese, the Cardinals took an early lead and never looked back.
Pujols and Craig drove two runs, while Freese blasted a three-run homer in the first inning to set up a Cardinals barrage.
All-Star second baseman Rickie Weeks and catcher Jonathan Lucroy tried to keep the Brewers within striking distance with homers in the second, but the Cards big bats were on display Sunday night.
The Cards also got a big boost from their bullpen, who shut down the Brewers batters.
First baseman Prince Fielder, who might have played his final game with the Brewers, went hitless in four at bats, while All-Star outfielder Ryan Braun came up with an RBI also in four at bats.
The Cardinals moved on to their third World Series appearance in eight years after dealing with a slow start and a slew of injuries in the regular-season.
Aiming for their 11th World Series title, the Cards are in for another tough series as they face the Texas Rangers, in their second straight trip baseball's grandest stage after beating the Detroit Tigers in six games in the ALCS.
