Sessions Becoming a Key to Lakers Championship Push
2012 NBA Playoffs
Denver, CO
Kobe Bryant won't be able to deliver the Los Angeles Lakers another championship by himself and Ramon Sessions was one of the players that showed he will get some help.
Sessions hit a huge 3-pointer in the final minute to help lead the Lakers to a crucial 92-88 victory over the Denver Nuggets in Game 4 of their Western Conference first-round series.
The Lakers now lead the series 3-1 with Game 5 set for Tuesday in Los Angeles.
Sessions had never appeared in a playoff game before joining the Lakers. He was acquired at the trade deadline to give Los Angeles a younger more athletic option at the guard spot manned by Derek Fisher for so many seasons.
Sessions had misfired on 10 of his 13 3-point attempts in the series, but made his biggest one yet, drilling a three with 48 seconds left and the game tied to give the Lakers an 89-86 lead.
Sessions is averaging 13.8 points this series and is starting to gain the trust of his teammates, especially Bryant.
"The team believes in me enough down the stretch that if they got to throw me the ball, they'll throw me the ball," said Sessions.
Sessions has big shoes to fill as Fisher was a key member of five title teams in Los Angeles. If he keeps hitting shots like he did Sunday, he may yet contribute to a title of his own.
''Sessions has hit big 3s. Even when I was out he hit some big 3s to win games. He did it again tonight. I have confidence in him,'' Bryant said. "'Those are tough shoes to fill because (Fisher) had experience. 'But you have to start somewhere. Fish and I started somewhere. ... This was the beginning for them."\
And maybe the beginning of another title run for the Lakers.
