Forward Carlos Tevez buried his 100th goal in English top-flight football in the 80th minute to help defending champion Manchester City salvage a 2-2 draw with Liverpool Sunday in the Barclays Premier League at Anfield.
The Argentine forward capitalized on a passing error by Martin Skrtel to bury the game-tying goal that saved Manchester City from slipping to its first defeat of the season and denied new Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers his first league win.
Skrtel, who earlier gave Liverpool a 1-0 lead with a goal in the 34th minute, played a poor backpass with looking at Tevez, who slipped past Pepe Reina to clinch the game-tying goal that silenced the home crowd.
The game-tying goal capped Tevez's comeback to the starting line-up for the first time since he was sent off at Arsenal last April.
Liverpool was aggressive from the start with captain Steven Gerrard twice stabbed low long-range shots wide in the opening three minutes but it was Skrtel who drew first blood with a header past goalie Joe Hart.
Manchester City tied the count in the 63rd minute when Tevez clipped the ball towards the far post that Yaya Toure finished with a simple goal from close range.
Liverpool responded in the 66th minute with a penalty kick from Luis Suarez after Jack Rodwell was penalised for handball 25 yards from goal before Tevez booted in the game-tying goal 14 minutes later.
Meanwhile, Stoke and Arsenal battled to a scoreless draw at Britannia Stadium.
Arsenal controlled the game with 66 percent of possession going its way but had limited clear-cut chances to score in the absence of Robin van Persie, who earlier moved to Manchester United.
The draw earned Manchester City a point, bringing the Roberto Mancini side to third place in the standings with four points after beating Southampton in its opening game, tied with West Brom.
Arsenal and Stoke are tied in fifth place with two point apiece while Liverpool is in 6th place with just one point to show, tied with Sunderland, Tottenham, Reading, Norwich and Queens Park Rangers.
