Alabama Still Tops BCS Ranking; Kansas State Moves to No. 2

As expected, Alabama continued to lord it over the BCS standings while Kansas State filled the No. 2 spot vacated by Florida in the latest ranking released Sunday.
The Crimson Tide (8-0, 5-0 SEC) garnered an average of .9759 from the Harris Poll (.9976), USA Today coaches' poll (1.000) and .930 from computer calculations to remain on top.
The Nick Saban-coached Alabama captured its eighth win with a 38-7 demolition of then No. 11 Mississippi State Bulldogs (7-1, 3-1 SEC), who dropped to 15th in the BCS ranking after the loss.
Despite the Crimson Tide's success, Saban is not resting on his laurels, saying the team still has many things to learn from different opponents.
"I think at this point in the season it's kind of like the playoffs in a way. You've got a tough game the next week. You've got a good opponent the next week. You've got somebody in your division that's a really good team. We are going to have to continue to improve and learn from our experiences today in terms of the good things," he said.
Boosted by its impressive 55-21 victory over No. 14 Texas Tech, Kansas State (8-0, 5-0 Big 12) moved to second from third last week, overtaking Notre Dame and Oregon.
The former No. 2 Gators (7-1, 6-1, SEC) dropped to seventh after losing to now No. 6 Georgia, 17-9, last week while Notre Dame moved to third from fifth while the Ducks remained in fourth place.
Rounding out the top ten were LSU (No. 5), South Carolina (No. 8), Florida State (No. 9) and Louisville (No. 10).
Four unranked teams last week made it to the latest BCS standings, including No. 20 Nebraska, No. 22 Arizona, No. 24 Oklahoma State and No. 25 Louisiana Tech.
The new BCS rankings take percentages from three categories -- the Harris Poll, USA Today coaches' poll and computer calculations -- to determine the standings.
Oregon, which placed fifth in the computer ranking, could improve its standings as it plays three opponents in the BCS top 25 -- Southern California, Stanford and Oregon State -- in its last four games.
