Hal Steinbrenner Says Yankees Not for Sale

New York, NY
New York Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner said the team is not for sale despite a report in a major paper earlier in the day.
Reports indicate the Yanks could fetch up to $3 billion after the Dodgers were recently sold to a group including Magic Johnson for $2 billion.
"I just learned of the (New York) Daily News story. It is pure fiction," he said. "The Yankees are not for sale. I expect that the Yankees will be in my family for many years to come."
Other Yankee officials agreed.
"It's highly unlikely the family would consider selling," Yanks GM Brian Cashman told ESPNNewYork.com. "Every impression I have gotten from Hal leads me to believe they plan to be involved in this for generations to come and pass it on to their children."
MLB indicated it has not heard from any party that the team is on the block.
"Major League Baseball has received no indications from any representatives of the New York Yankees or anyone else that the club is for sale," the commissioner's office said in a statement.
The late George Steinbrenner purchased the team for $8.8 million in 1973.
The New York Yankees owners are considering a sale of the team, according to an article in the New York Daily News. And while the Steinbrenner family vehemently denies it, Len Berman says this may be the perfect time to sell the valuable baseball team
