New York Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte is looking to make his retirement with the team a short one, signing a one-year, $2.5 million contract to return.

The contract will take effect if the borderline Hall of Famer makes the team.

ESPN Radio's Michael Kay may be partially responsible for the reunion.

"He said, 'Hey, I heard about your interview on Michael and it got me thinking about it. I 'd like to work out and see where it takes me,' " Cashman said Pettitte told him.

Pettitte was 11-3 with a 3.28 ERA in 2010 and 14-8 with a 4.16 ERA in 2009, his last full season with the Bronx Bombers.
