Rotterdam, Netherlands

Gregory Anthony Halman, 24, a Dutch baseball player with the Seattle Mariners has reportedly been stabbed to death.

A police spokesperson in Rotterdam said Halman's brother Jason was taken into custody at the home where the stabbing occurred, according to Bloomberg.

Halman, only in the majors since September of 2010, played all three outfield positions this past season for the Mariners, batting .230 with two homers in 35 games.

Halman is originally from the Dutch city of Haarlem and he and Jason have played for the Dutch national baseball team.

His sister, Naomi, is a professional basketball player in Europe after playing at the college level for UC Irvine.
