Suspected Kenyan jet fighters have reportedly carried out air strikes in the town of Badhadhe in the southern region of Lower Jubba, according to reports by residents.
"We could not identify the which government belonging but what we saw were jet fighters," said a resident in the Badhadhe area speaking in anonymity for his safety.
"Also, villages surrounding the town were pounded and nobody knows if there were casualties," he added.
Government officials in Lower Jubba confirmed the attack but did not provide further details. Al-Shabaab insurgents fighting to oust the fragile government in Somalia were not available for comments.
On Tuesday, at least 10 people including civilians were killed and many others wounded in an airstrike by unidentified jet fighters at an Al-Shabaab military training base in Yaqle, 120 kilometers north of the border town of El-wak, say witnesses.
"Heavy explosions were heard and residents were afraid," said a resident in Yaqle who requested that his name not to be mentioned for safety.
Sources in El-Wak said that many of those killed in the air strike were Al-Shabaab fighters. Insurgent officials were did not release any comment.
Hassan Saney, a government official in Gedo, confirmed the air strike but could not give further details.
The Kenyan government did not release comments on whether their air forces launched the attack.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, at least eight people were killed and others wounded after fighting sparked between Al-Shabaab and government forces backed by the pro-government Raskamboni fighters in an area between Hanye and Qooqaani villages in the Lower Jubba region of southern Somalia.
Unconfirmed reports said that government forces regained control of the area.
Al-Shabaab has vowed retaliation against the attack.
