MLB Keeps Mets From Honoring First Responders

Major League Baseball would not give in to the New York Mets Sunday night regardless of how it makes the league look in hindsight.
MLB denied the Mets permission to wear baseball caps Sunday night honoring New York emergency service departments during the game against the Chicago Cubs.
The game was being played on the 10th anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attacks.
The Mets complied with MLB and wore the service hats throughout the pregame ceremony before wearing black Mets caps during the game.
"That's their decision," Mets third baseman David Wright said. "If we had a vote in it, I think we would wear the hats. But at the end of the day, Major League Baseball makes that call, and we're going to respect that."
The Mets held ceremony of remembrance before the game as fans held electronic candles and bagpipers and drummers stood on the infield with first responders lining the infield.
Mets and Cubs players escorted members of "Tuesday’s Children," a charity for families affected by the attacks, onto the field and they stood with the uniformed emergency-service workers.
The caps worn during the ceremony will be autographed and sold on Mets.com with proceeds going to charities through the Mets’ foundation.
