Saints quarterback Drew Brees, Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly and Rams rookie punt returner-wide receiver Tavon Austin are the NFC Players of the Week for games played the 10th week of the NFL 2013 season
Offense: QB Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints
Brees completed 34 of 41 passes (82.9 percent) for 392 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions for a 139.0 passer rating in the Saints' 49-17 win over Dallas.
It marked the 15th game in his career with at least four touchdown passes and no interceptions, tied with TOM BRADY for the most in NFL history. Brees' teams are 15-0 in those contests.
Brees has thrown at least two touchdown passes in 21 consecutive games at the Superdome, the longest streak at a single venue in NFL history.
He has passed for at least 350 yards 39 times in his career, including 13 games with at least 390 yards.
Brees led an offense that recorded an NFL-record 40 first downs and gained a franchise-best 625 total net yards.
In his 13th season from Purdue, this is Brees' 18th career Player of the Week Award and second this season (Week 4).
Since joining the Saints in 2006, Brees has won 16 Player of the Week Awards, the most in franchise history. During that span, Brees' 16 Player of the Week Awards are tied for the most in the NFL (Brady).
Defense: LB Luke Kuechly, Carolina Panthers
Kuechly had a game-high 11 tackles, a sack and a pass defensed in the Panthers' 10-9 win at San Francisco. Two of his tackles resulted in a loss and he recorded five tackles within three yards or behind the line of scrimmage.
He led a Carolina defense that limited the 49ers to nine points and 151 total net yards. San Francisco entered the game on a five-game winning streak having averaged 34.8 points and 357.6 yards during that span.
The Panthers allowed 46 net passing yards, the fewest gained by the 49ers in a game since 2005. In the previous five games, San Francisco averaged 173.8 net passing yards.
Kuechly was part of a defensive unit that had six sacks and forced two turnovers.
In his second year from Boston College, this is Kuechly's second career Player of the Week Award (Week 14, 2012).
He is the first linebacker in franchise history to be named Defensive Player of the Week multiple times.
Special Teams: PR-WR Tavon Austin, St. Louis Rams
Austin returned a punt 98 yards for a touchdown and had receiving touchdowns of 81 and 57 yards in the Rams' 38-8 win at Indianapolis. He is the first player in NFL history with a 95+ yard punt-return touchdown and two 55+ yard receiving touchdowns in a single game.
He finished the game with 145 punt-return yards and 142 scrimmage yards (138 receiving, four rushing) and joined STEVE SMITH (December 8, 2002) as the only players in NFL history with at least 140 punt-return yards and 140 scrimmage yards in the same game.
Austin averaged 78.7 yards per touchdown, the highest in NFL history for a player with at least three touchdowns in a single game.
He joined Pro Football Hall of Famer GALE SAYERS (December 12, 1965) and RANDY MOSS (November 26, 1998) as the only rookies with three 50+ yard touchdowns in a game.
In his rookie season from West Virginia, this is Austin's first career Player of the Week Award.
Austin joins EDDIE KENNISON (Week 11, 1996) as the only rookie returners in franchise history to be named Special Teams Player of the Week.
