Jawan Jamison collected two rushing touchdowns in the second quarter, and Brandon Coleman recorded an 86 yard touchdown grab in the closing minutes as Rutgers posted a 27-13 win over Iowa State in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium.
Zach Guyer knocked in two long field goals in the first quarter, covering 40 and 45 yards, to give Iowa State a 6-0 lead.
Jamison (27 carries, 134 yards) had his first touchdown, a 1 yard run, early in the second quarter. A 12 yard dash, with 2:24 left in the half, followed. San San Te chipped in with a 21 yard field goal to put the Rutgers Scarlet Knights ahead 17-6 at the half.
Te added a 29 yarder just 1:39 into the fourth quarter as Rutgers pulled ahead 20-6.
Jeff Woody roared 20 yards for a score with 10 minutes left to give Iowa State a chance to finish its season with a winning record. Woody's touchdown capped a 76-yard drive that allowed Iowa State to cut the Rutgers lead to 20-13. However, Chas Dodd's 86-yard TD pass to Coleman with 5:47 remaining sealed the victory for Rutgers.
Rutgers' defense was in control throughout the game, limiting Iowa State to 91 rushing yards on 29 attempts, recording three sacks, 10 tackles for a loss, 2 interceptions, a fumble recovery, and blocked a field goal attempt. Jawan Jamison earned MVP honors for his stellar performance at running back.
Rutgers sent its contingent home happy with its 9-4 record for the 2011 season. The Iowa State Cyclones finished the season with a 6-7 record despite impressive victories over Iowa and Oklahoma State.
