Baton Rouge, LA
Junior wideout Rueben Randle covered 106 yards and collected two touchdown catches as the LSU Tigers came through with another dominant performance against SEC rival Auburn Tigers with a 45-10 win Saturday night at Tiger Stadium.
LSU's bid for a national title remains alive after overwhelming Auburn in front of 93,098 fans in Baton Rouge.
Despite missing the service of three starters, the nation's No.1 football team showed its depth and potent passing game with Jarrett Lee and Jordan Jefferson sharing the load at the quarterback position.
After a close first quarter, Jefferson sparked LSU's offense with a 42-yard TD pass to Randle at the five-minute mark of the second quarter.
Minutes later, it was Lee's turn to call the shots for the Tigers as he hooked up with Randle for a 46-yard score.
Lee, who covered 1,250 yards with 13 TD this season, struck again in the third quarter, hooking up with Russell Shepard for a 10-yard score.
But The Tigers' onslaught was not over as reserve running back Kenny Hilliard rushed for 1-yard TD and cornerback Ron Brooks intercepted a pass for a 28-yard TD return.
Cornerback Tyrann Mathieu, leading rusher Spencer Ware and defensive back Tharold Simon served a one-game suspension for violating the school's drug policy.
Lee went 14-for-20 for 165 yards with two touchdowns, while Jefferson went 2-for-3 for 53 yards and a touchdown.
Auburn starting quarterback Clint Moseley threw 12-for-20 yards for 145 yards with an interception.
LSU extended its double-digit win streak to eight game and more importantly stayed unbeaten going into their showdown with Alabama on Nov. 5 in Tuscaloosa.
Meanwhile, Auburn's 35-point loss to LSU marked the worst defeat by a defending champion in the last 25 years.
On other college football results, the No.2 Alabama Crimson Tide asserted its superiority by pummeling the Tennessee Volunteers 37-6 at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
Running back Trent Richardson rushed for 77 yards on 17 carries with two touchdowns to keep the Tide undefeated this season.
A pair of stunning results also happened Saturday as No.16 Michigan State stunned no.6 Wisconsin, 37-31 at Spartan Stadium, while Texas Tech shocked No.3 Oklahoma 41-38 at Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.
