NBA Commissioner David Stern to Step Down in 2014

New York, NY
NBA Commissioner David Stern will retire and step down from his post on Feb. 1, 2014. He will be replaced by Deputy Commissioner Adam Silver.
Stern has overseen huge growth in the league thanks in part to the emergence of great players like Larry Bird, Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan and a tremendous worldwide marketing effort.
"He's had an absolutely brilliant career," said WFAN broadcaster Mike Francesa, who will have Stern on his radio / YES Network show next week.
Stern's run will end after exactly 30 years, making him the longest-running commissioner in all of professional sports, edging out ex-NFL head Pete Rozelle.
