Sarah Palin Going Rogue by Donna Grethen

For those who believe that Palin's brand of patriotism, or politics, or homespun world view represents some remarkably fresh approach togoverning, I've got some bad news for you Sarah Palin's CrassPatriotism. Palin is much less interested in substantive, meaningful change than she is in glib self-promotion andmonetary enrichment. This "movement" isn't rogue, or maverick, or any other type of quasi-transformative neo-patriotism. It's narcissisticopportunism, pure and simple. And that's nothing new in this country. There is great wisdom to be found outside of the beltway and away fromthe East or West coasts of America. There is some fine wisdom in Ohio where I live. But Palin has already provenherself to be unworthy of middle America's support or trustfulness, even if she does proclaim herself to be the greatest proponent ofchanging the status quo. The problem is she is the status quo: an ego-driven political opportunist sucking up to the American populism moneytrough, ready to trade her 15 seconds of fame for a few dollars and then 15 more seconds. For those really looking for homespun Americanwisdom, I say good luck, and keep searching.

I would like to propose a toast: Here's to Sarah Palin; may shenever --ever -- go away. I am going to go out on a limb here: No woman since Eleanor Roosevelt has done more to further thecause of progressive politics in the United States of America. Don'cha just love her?

I find Sarah Palin's post on patriotism ridiculous. It's basically saying if you support me and buy my book you are apatriot, but if not, well then you don't deserve to be called an American. She could never become president because her supporters are sucha marginalized group of people--no room for dissent or progressive ideas. The majority of Americans (especially younger Americans) justcan't relate to her. The Democrats will be ecstatic if she becomes a serious contender in 2012.

I am a proud American conservative in every sense of the word. If she [Sarah Palin] truly loves our country, she will join in topromote other candidates who believe as we do but who are better qualified to take on the mounting problems we face as a nation.

Don't spend good money on this book. Do you like to be patronized for your patriotism by an inflated ego? Don't encourage it andsubsidize it by shelling out your money. Get it from the library if you must. She is a legend in her own mind (well... also God told her topursue this), and a sad representative for what once was the "Grand Old Party." If I were a Democrat I would hope that she isnominated and runs for president.
