This survey indicates that an Oscar win seemingly has little effect on potential viewers.

An Oscar is seen by most as the highest accolade a film, actor or producer can receive. While there is no accounting for taste, an Academy Award is as close to a guarantee of quality you can get. Nevertheless, a survey by YouGov has shown that an Oscar win seemingly has little effect on potential viewers.

Of the 1,000 respondents, only 20 percent said an Academy Award would make them more likely to see the film. An overwhelming 68 percent remain apparently unimpressed, saying their decision to head to the movie theater or not would remain unaffected.

The chart above shows the effect an Oscar win has on viewers' likelihood to watch a film.
