Turkey's national airlines announced on Monday it has ordered 15 jet planes worth $4.7 billion from U.S. plane maker Boeing

Boeing confirmed the purchase by Turkish Airlines of the widebody 777-300ERs. The purchase will be staggered with three planes in 2015, seven in 2016 and five in 2017. The deal includes an option to buy five more planes.

The Boeing order follows Turkish Airlines' purchase of 15 planes worth $3.7 billion from Airbus. The Airbus A330-300 long-range jets ordered was the 20th deal with the European plane builder.

Turkish Airlines' fleet currently consists of 185 passenger and cargo aircraft flying to 200 destinations around the world. The addition of the Boeing planes is expected to expand its destinations to 250 by 2015.

With its 27 percent rise in traffic in the first 9 months of the year, Turkish Airlines is the fastest growing flag carrier in the world. The airline's forecasted passenger traffic this year is 38 million.
