After two periods Ilya Bryzgalov appeared like he might be able to steal a playoff game for the Flyers. The Flyers goalie was tremendous for two-thirds of game two against the New Jersey Devils.

However, the desperate Devils dominated during the third period and beat the Flyers 4-1 and New Jersey evened the Eastern Conference Semifinal 1-1.

The Flyers Matt Read scored early in the game to give the Flyers a slim margin they carried into the third period.

However, the Devils relentless pressure finally got to the Flyers and Bryzgalov in the third.

The Devils Adam Larrson tied the score at 1-1 with a wrister over Bryzgalov's glove. David Clarkson scored from right in front of the crease and Travis Zajac converted on a wrap-around. Bryce Salvador added an empty netter.

Bryzgalov was exceptional but the Devils barrage, they outshot the Flyers 35-20, was too much for Philadelphia as Devils goalie Martin Brodeur and his defense stiffened.

"We tried but you have to give it to the New Jersey Devils," Bryzgalov said. "They played like this during the regular season. They were unbelievable. They did a tremendous job in front of the net, shooting the puck. They were just unreal."

The Devils just wanted the game more than the Flyers. New Jersey never lacked energy. The Flyers were listless and failed to make crisp passes that could have created good scoring opportunities.

"I think they were skating better," Flyers coach Peter Laviolette said. "It just wasn't our offense (that wasn't clicking). It was three zones. They were quicker. They were more competitive on the puck. There are times when a goaltender stands on his head and you're able to squeeze one out but that doesn't often happen. Bryz was phenomenal tonight but we have to do a better job."

Bryzgalov believes he Flyers will be able to bounce back. "We'll figure out what we have to do," Bryzgalov said. "We'll get it done."
