2012 NBA Playoffs

Chicago, IL

All-Star point guard Derrick Rose underwent a surgery to repair his torn ACL in his left knee, making it the first step of what will likely be a long road back to title contention for the Chicago Bulls.

Reggie Rose told Chicago's ABC 7 his brother Derrick had a successful surgery performed by Bulls physician Dr. Brian Cole at Rush University Medical Center.

"The surgery went fine," "He came out, I feel, 100 percent. I talked to Dr. Cole. Dr. Cole said the surgery 'went great.' So right now, everything is on the up-and-up," said Rose.

Rose added the former NBA MVP experienced a tingling pain but the surgical procedure was perfectly conducted.

After being limited for 39 games in the regular-season due to several injuries, Rose's season ultimately came to a painful end after tearing his ACL in his left knee in the winding minutes of Game 1 of their first-round series with the Philadelphia 76ers.

Rose delivered MVP-type numbers in that game but the unexpected injury forced the Bulls to play without their best player and eventually get eliminated in six games.

Rose, who averaged 21.8 points and 7.9 dimes in an injury-marred 2011-2012 season, will miss the upcoming 2012 London Olympics as the surgery needs six to nine months rehabilitation.
