Dallas Mavericks superstar Dirk Nowitzki is planning to play in Europe with the clouds of uncertainty still all over the NBA season, the reigning Finals MVP confirmed Saturday.

According to ESPN, the 33-year-old Nowitzki has started his workout with personal coach Holger Geschwindner and is entertaining offers from several basketball clubs in Europe.

"It's going to take me a few weeks to get in basketball shape," Nowitzki told ESPN Saturday, "but then I'm ready. I can't stand not playing."

With the NBA lockout logging into its fifth month, Nowitzki is reportedly eying a stint in one of big ball clubs in Europe, including Spanish powerhouse Real Madrid.

"It's a great club with a great tradition," Nowitzki told ESPN Saturday about Real Madrid. "I don't know if that's true, but (if the media reports are accurate) that's something you'd have to look at hard.

German teams Bamberg, Bayern Munich, and ALBA Berlin are also looking into Nowitzki, who averaged 27.7 points and 8.1 boards during the Mavs' title run.

Another enticing scenario for Nowitzki to stay in Germany is the chance to duke it out with two-time NBA leading scorer Kevin Durant, who's reportedly negotiating with German club BBC Bayreuth.

Nowitzki assured he's going to play basketball somewhere in the coming months.

"I needed those two months to get away. But now I'm really looking forward to getting back out there. I've said it a bunch of times: There's no way I can go a whole year without playing," Nowitzki added Saturday.
