The Houston Rockets amnestied veteran power forward Luis Scola, giving them enough salary cap flexibility in their attempt to absorb big contracts in potential blockbuster trade for Dwight Howard.

The Rockets continue their pursuit for Howard despite dealing with the risk of 'renting' the All-NBA center for just one season.

The Rockets released Scola using the CBA's amnesty provision and subsequently wiped $21 million remaining off their books.

The move allows Houston to pull off a deal with Magic for Howard along with absorbing big contracts of Jason Richardson and Hedo Turkoglu.

Meanwhile, the Dallas Mavericks are still interested to register a bid for Scola, who averaged 15.5 points and 6.5 boards over five seasons.

The Cleveland Cavaliers and the Sacramento Kings will also look to bid for the finesse type forward.
