Free-agent shooting guard Jason Terry has reached a verbal agreement with the Boston Celtics on a three-year, $15 million pact, a reliable league insider disclosed.

Terry, who's turning 35 this September, will likely join Celtics veteran Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, and possibly Ray Allen in another chance at winning another NBA title.

The 6-foot-2 combo guard won't be able to sign the contract until July 11, giving the Dallas Mavericks at least few days to think if they would match the Celtics' offer sheet.

However, Mavs president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson indirectly expressed the team's intent not to sign Terry.

"What Jet did for this city and franchise will never be forgotten," Nelson told ESPN Wednesday. "He's one of the greatest clutch performers in the history of our game and even a better person. We wish him nothing but the very best."

Terry averaged 15.1 points and 3.6 assists in the 2011-2012 season and shot 37.8 percent from 3-point territory. He is a career 38 percent 3-pointer and averaged 16.1 points per game over 13 seasons.
