In the wake of Athletic Coast Conference realignment, Duke head basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski indicated that snagging Syracuse and Pittsburgh would a major coup for the conference.

Krzyzewski, who has led the Blue Devils to numerous achievements, including four NCAA Championships, in over 30 seasons at Duke, weighed in on the potential addition, saying conference change is "evolution."

"I'm proud of the leadership of our conference to be ahead of things," the 64-year-old Krzyzewski said via ESPN.com. "We're in a period of change. Whether everyone agrees with it or doesn't agree with it -- change is happening. It's not a revolution, it's evolution. These things are happening."

"The NBA had the ABA. The NFL had the AFL. There was once no BCS. The NIT was once better than the NCAA (tournament). When it happens while you're doing it, it seems like it shouldn't happen, but it is, added Krzyzewski.

According to multiple reports, Syracuse and Pittsburgh, two of the cornerstone programs in the Big East, have sent application letters to the ACC.

The transfers bid by Pitt and Syracuse from the Big East were reportedly accepted by the ACC, considered one of the six "power conferences".

The ACC football champion receives an automatic bid to one of the Bowl Championship Series game each season, but the conference is best known for its success in men's college basketball.

The Big East, on the other hand, is widely regarded as the most powerful conference in college basketball today and a potential realignment would rock the NCAA basketball landscape.

Krzyzewski, the longest-serving coach in basketball or football in the ACC, also indicated that the ACC should not stop at 14 teams, but to go for a 16-team conference.

He added that the conference should take two more schools that have rich basketball and should move to two divisions in basketball with the addition of Syracuse and Pitt.

According to the Blue Devils long-time mentor, the move would facilitate an eight-team divisional split in basketball and football with champions of two divisions.
