Break Out of Your Mommy Rut
by Danyelle Little
As a mom, I know a little when it comes to experiencing a mommy rut. It's easy to forget about yourself when you are spending so much time and energy taking care of your family. And while being stuck in a mommy rut may feel inescapable, it doesn't have to be. Here are five ways to break the downbeat chain.
Love Yourself
The best way to love and care for others is by first loving yourself. Take time daily, even if it's just five minutes, to spend on you. Read a book, write in your journal, or meditate. Find your happy place and make sure you visit it often. Your family will thank you!
Do Something Different
Shake things up a bit. Us moms have jam-packed schedules, but that doesn't mean that we have to adhere to them all of the time. Select a day or two each month when you do something different. Take salsa lessons, go to dinner alone or with a good friend, take a cooking class; do something that you normally don't do. You may just find a new hobby!
Get Dressed Up
Sometimes, putting on a nice outfit and getting dolled up is enough to escape the doldrums. Put away the yoga pants and sneakers and put on something that makes you feel and look fabulous!
Share Your Feelings
If you are in a mommy rut, other moms you know just might be as well. Get together with your friends and share what you are going through. Releasing your feelings can go a long way towards making you feel less alone.
Take a Class or Two
Learning and growing are wonderful ways to give back to yourself, and could be just what you need to get out of your rut. Continuing your education in areas that fulfill you can do a lot for your happiness. Think about enrolling in some college classes and how good it would feel to receive certification in your chosen field.
No one likes being stuck in a rut, and doing something different to shake things up a bit can be just what you need to move forward and get unstuck.
