Winger Alex Burrows has agreed to a four-year, $18 million contract extension with the Vancouver Canucks, ensuring his stint with the team through the 2016-17 season.

"Me and my family really like it here in Vancouver, we like the organization, it's a team that wants to win and wants to win the Stanley Cup and that's exactly what I want to do. It makes sense for me to get a deal done and be here for another five years will be a lot of fun," Burrows said.

Burrows still has one year left on a four-year $8-million deal but the Canucks made the move to lock the winger for the long haul.

He said signing a long-term deal with the Canucks was a "no-brainer", especially with the outstanding way the organization is treating its players.

"The organization is really committed to winning and is willing to do whatever it can to help the players to succeed," Burrows said.

"Plus me and my wife really like the city of Vancouver, we think it's a beautiful place to live and to raise a family, so that all made this a no-brainer," he added.

The 31-year-old Burrows notched 28 goals and 24 assists in 80 games last season. He also led the team with seven game-winning goals and was second with a plus-24 rating. He also had one goal in five 2012 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

The 6-1, 188-pound winger has at least 26 goals in four straight seasons, and at least 50 points in three of the last four. In seven NHL seasons, all with the Canucks, Burrows has 139 goals and 131 assists in 522 games.
