Tony Romo returned from an injury to lead the Dallas Cowboys to victory a week after giving a game away.

Playing with a fractured rib, Romo helped set up a pair of field goals by rookie Dan Bailey that lifted the Cowboys to a 27-24 victory over the San Francisco 49ers Sunday.

Romo made a pair of mistakes in the fourth quarter of an opening week loss to the New York Jets but this time he came through in the clutch. He threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Miles Austin with 6:55 to play in the fourth quarter to cut the 49ers lead to 24-21.

Romo was 5-of-6 passing on Dallas' last drive in regulation, that Bailey capped with a 48-yard field goal as time expired to send the game to overtime.

Dallas (1-1) forced San Francisco (1-1) to punt in overtime and Romo connected with Jesse Holley for a 77-yard gain down to the 49ers 1. Bailey, who missed from 21-yards eralier in the game, won it with a 19-yarder after Holley's catch.

Alex Smith threw two touchdowns for the 49ers, who failed to get off to their first 2-0 start since 2007.
