5,084. That number represents the NFL's single-season passing record, set in 1984 by Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback DAN MARINO.
It is the mark that every QB shoots for.
Through the first 10 games of the 2011 season, three quarterbacks are on pace for 5,000 passing yards (312.5 yards per game). It is the first time in NFL history that three players have passed for at least 3,125 yards through the first 10 games of a season:

"For any competitive person, when you get close to a record like this one, you think it would be cool to do it," says Brees. "When you are winning and breaking records, it makes it even sweeter. You can really enjoy them. Would I love to have that record? Yes, because it's more than just me. It's the team. It's every guy that caught a pass or blocked or played defense or special teams. It was part of this team. That's a record we can all share. That every coach can share. That everybody in the organization can share. It's more than just one player who has his name on the record. It's everybody.
"If we can go rolling into the playoffs and collect a few records on the way, that'd be great. It's fun to talk about and records are meant to be broken, so why not?"
