Rex Grossman had a strong start in his campaign to establish himself as the starting quarterback of the Washington Redskins.
Grossman completed 19 of 26 passes for 207 yards to lead the Redskins to a 16-7 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers in the preseason opener for both teams.
With his main competition for the starting job - John Beck - out with an injured groin, Grossman threw an eight-yard touchdown pass to Santana Moss in the second quarter to give the Redskins a 7-0 lead.
Isaac Redman scored Pittsburgh's only touchdown on a 22-yard run in the second quarter to tie the game, 7-7.
Washington did all the scoring in the second half as Greham Gano kicked three field goals for the final margin.
The Redskins played their starters for the entire first half and outgained the Steelers 452-186.
