Texas coach Mack Brown has suspended and sent home two players accused of sexually assaulting a woman on the eve of the Valero Alamo Bowl against Oregon State.

"As has been reported, we had a couple of young men that broke team rules last night," Brown said. "They have been suspended from the team, and they will be sent home and will not be available for the game, and I will not address any more questions in that matter."

However, Brown declined to mention the players' names or discuss which rules had been broken.

Brown also refused to say whether the suspended players were starters. He was scheduled to meet with the team this afternoon to explain the situation and his decision.

"You move forward. You have policies that you go by," Brown said.

KENS-TV in San Antonio reported that two Texas players were being investigated regarding sexual assault allegations.

According to the report, a woman told police she met two Texas players out partying overnight and invited them back to her room at the Holiday Inn. She later made the allegations of sexual assault to police.

The names of the players have not been released, since no arrests have been made and no charges have been filed.

Officers said University of Texas football coaches have been notified of the situation. The players have had initial talks with police and were expected to be further questioned by police sexual assault detectives Friday morning.

Texas and Oregon State were scheduled to have a walk-through practice at the Alamodome Friday.
