Junior quarterback David Fales covered 395 yards on 33-for-43 passing with two touchdowns as the San Jose State Spartans captured the Military Bowl with a 29-20 victory over the Bowling Green Falcons at RFK Memorial Stadium.
The Spartans capped a turnaround year after pulling off a Bowl victory at the expense of the Falcons.
The 2012 Military Bowl featured a back-and-forth game between both teams, though the Spartans came through with the key plays down the stretch.
Bowling Green took a 20-19 lead on a one-yard run by senior running back John Pettigrew with 10 minutes left.
But the Spartans stormed back as Austin Lopez converted a 27-yard field goal and De'Leon Eskridge scored a game-clinching one-yard run to give his team a 9-point win.
San Jose State finished the season 11-2, a year after going 1-12 in the 2011-2012 season. It marked the first 11-win season for the Spartans since 1940. Bowling Green finished with an 8-5 slate.
