Kelly Olynyk racked up 21 points and 10 rebounds and Kevin Pangos added 16 as the top-seeded Gonzaga Bulldogs staved off an upset bid from No.16 seed Southern University Jaguars, 64-58, in the second round of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament at Energy Solutions Arena.

The David-and-Goliath duel between Gonzaga and Southern University lived up to March Madness billing with the lowly Jaguars giving the Bulldogs a run for their money in the round-of-64.

The Jaguars showed their intention right away as they went toe-to-toe with the Bulldogs through the first 20 minutes of play.

Led by a hot shooting Derick Beltran, Southern University kept within striking distance, 34-31, at the break.

In the second half, the Bulldogs leaned on the best offensive bigman in college basketball in Kevin Olynyk. However, his exploits were not enough to get Gonzaga over the hump.

Beltran, who finished with 21 points, knocked down two free-throws to keep them within a single point, 59-58, with 2:28 left to play. Fortunately for the Zags, Pangos stood up to the occasion and saved them from the fangs of elimination.

Pangos drilled a crucial trey to make it a two possession ballgame and sunk two free-throws to seal the deal for the Bulldogs.

Gonzaga arranged a third-round showdown with Wichita State Shockers, who pulled off a 73-55 victory over the Pittsburgh Panthers.

Gonzaga avoids historic upset versus Southern University. Gonzaga prevailed 64-58 over Southern University in a game that wasn't safely in hand until the final buzzer sounded.
