Evanston, IL

Northwestern is reportedly close to signing Duke assistant coach Chris Collins as its new coach, according to a source close to the situation.

The source told ESPN.com that the two sides are still ironing out some details and Collins will be introduced after Duke ends its season.

Earlier, CBSSports.com reported Collins and Northwestern have agreed to a deal.

Duke, a No. 2 seed in the Midwest region of the NCAA tournament, faces third-seeded Michigan State on Friday in the Sweet 16.

Collins, a son of 76ers coach Doug Collins, had been a leading candidate to replace Bill Carmody, who was fired March 16 following 13 years without an NCAA berth.

He has been an assistant under Mike Krzyzewski since 2000 and also played for the Blue Devils.

Collins is a native of the Chicago suburb of Northbrook, Illinois, where he starred as a McDonald's All American at Glenbrook North High School.

He has recruited the Chicago area for Duke and helped land Jon Scheyer and Sean Dockery for the Blue Devils.
