New York, NY
The National Hockey League has announced that the last of the six-game outdoor series will feature a Heritage Classic showdown between the Ottawa Senators and the Vancouver Canucks on March 1 at BC Place.
BC Place, which hosted the Olympics opening and closing ceremonies in 2010, is covered but has a retractable roof.
Earlier, the league has scheduled five other outdoor matches, starting with the Jan. 1 Winter Classic between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Detroit Red Wings in Michigan Stadium.
Also, the league added four games in a Stadium Series, including the Jan. 25 showdown between the Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Kings at Dodger Stadium.
The New Jersey Devils and the New York Rangers face off on Jan. 26 while the New York Islanders and Rangers clash on Jan. 29, both at Yankee Stadium. The Pittsburgh Penguins and the Chicago Blackhawks clash on March 1 at Soldier Field.
The first Heritage Classic between the Montreal Canadiens and the Oilers in Edmonton in 2003 preceded the Winter Classic. The Canadiens also visited the Calgary Flames in 2011.
After this season, all Canadian teams except the Winnipeg Jets will have played an outdoor game.
