Spring Makeup: Sunny Colors

Spring is here.

The rain is gone, the sun is shining, and the beauty forecast is: color! Move those wine stains to the back of the beauty drawer and put everything sunny front and center.

To get inspired, think of the hues of a great summer sunset, tropical flowers and citrus fruit.

This spring, corals make a huge comeback, and rightfully so. Nothing plays off a new warm-weather tan like a nice pop of orangey coral. On the cheeks, it's a believable flush; on the lips, it's a trendy pop of color.

Fear not, color-phobes! What looks like pure OJ in the tube can actually be soft and warm when applied. Spring's sheer textures and stains make bold-seeming color surprisingly wearable, especially if you steer clear of primary colors. Choosing the right texture is key. If brash, adventurous colors are your thing, look for satin and cream formulas for lips. A matte coral lip is an invigorating change from the usual subdued lip glosses. For subtler lips, choose a stain or gel texture. Cheeks should always be soft, so cream blush is key for brighter colors.

To bring eyes up to trend, choose a wash of sheer peachy orange. Bonus points if there's a bit of shimmer in your shadow! Just be sure to pair this eye with a more muted face so your features aren't fighting for attention. Now that the sun is shining, orange you glad it's spring?
