Perk up Your Winter Wardrobe

Winter has definitively taken up residence across the country. And even if you live in sunny, breezy weather, you may not be immune to the fashion winter blues.

You know it’s true when you pull together a creative outfit, which results in a colorful pair of sweats. Enter the easiest -- and cheeriest -- fix around: accessories. Right now, you’ll find that a wide array of prices from fall collections are deeply discounted, and the newest spring selections are just starting to come into stores.

Here are my tips on what to buy to infuse some needed spark into a tired wardrobe:

The satchel is this season’s darling -- go for a fiery red.

Color is where it’s at from now until summer. Coral, pink and red will be the most popular, and they can be found in fun statement necklaces and cluster rings.

Pick up one of the colorful cardigans that will be popular for spring (they’re in stores now) as a way to cheer up your mood. Wear as a work and weekend staple.

Add a little sparkle with earrings. Stick to a chic classic and choose a dangling earring, such as a bejeweled chandelier.

Donna Duarte-Ladd began her career working in the costume department for films but found her true calling as a stylist and editor. She has worked for many notable publications, including Redbook and Real Simple. Currently, Duarte-Ladd is the style editor at Woman's Day magazine.
