How to Get Celebrity Skin

Let's face it, we all want the red-carpet look: flawless, smooth, glowing skin. The No. 1 question I get asked is this: "How can I get perfect skin like celebrities?"

What most people don't realize is that celebrities deal with the same skin issues we do -- acne, wrinkles, fine lines, sun damage and discoloration. The solutions are easy; it's just a matter of understanding your skin and knowing the options available.

I treat many celebrities and high-profile patients that need to go on high-definition television daily, and my top recommendation is to start with a retinol product when you're in your 20s. Retinols have been shown to increase cellular turnover and rejuvenate the skin rapidly. I am also a big proponent of incorporating vitamins into your skin care routine. These include vitamin A; vitamin B for moisture retention, which gives off that glamorous glow; vitamin C to repair sun damage and fight against free radicals such as air pollution, smoking and sun exposure; vitamin E to repair dry, dull-looking skin; and vitamin K to treat skin blemishes. Look for these in the ingredients list of the skin care products you buy.

Since it's a celebrity's job to look good, they avail themselves of all the tools a dermatologist can provide. For example, sun-damaged skin can be smoothed by chemical peels and microdermabrasion. Chemical peels work by removing the damaged, scaly, dry top layers of the skin. After this treatment, applying foundation to your skin makes it look totally flawless -- especially if that foundation is applied by a makeup pro using an airbrushing machine!

With proper treatments and care, you too can look like you're fresh off the runway.
