Hair and Makeup Trends: New York Fall Fashion Week

Another New York Fashion Week recently wrapped up, and while you have to wait until September to wear the clothes, there are plenty of beauty trends to start trying now.

1. Middle Parts

A number of designers say they took their inspiration from the 1970s, so it follows that many a model rocked a middle part. At Ralph Lauren and Michael Kors, the middle part was paired with a chic chignon; at Marchesa, it was matched with a voluminous updo; and at Tory Burch, models wore their hair long and straight with a middle part.

2. Shocks of Color

Bright, colorful clip-in extensions and spray-on colors kept hairstyles looking young and playful. Models at Tracy Reese had strands of red and pink. At Jeremy Scott, they wore pigtails blended with every color of the rainbow. Models at Betsey Johnson sported black bob wigs that were spray-painted with gold.

3. Bold Lips

A strong, brightly colored matte lip was undeniably the makeup trend of the fall season. A few of the bold lip colors seen on the runways: coral at Jill Stuart; red-orange at Ralph Lauren and Nanette Lepore; bright pink at Jenni Kayne; true red at Diane Von Furstenberg; and deep burgundy at LUCA LUCA.

4. All About the Nails

Nails on the fall 2011 runway were anything but boring. Patterned, artistically designed nails -- popular in 2010 -- are here to stay. At Ruffian, the models had nails designed to look like miniature tuxedos; at Jen Kao, they were painted to look like peacocks; and even at ladylike, red-carpet staple Monique Luhllier, the otherwise pale peach nails were finished with a tip of deep purple.
