Frosted Makeup Trend

Frosted makeup has been gathering dust on the shelves ever since the early '90s, but when trendsetter Jennifer Lopez graced the Golden Globes wearing vintage frosty lids, that story changed. Now A-listers are sporting silvery white and icy blue eyes on red carpets from coast to coast.

The look is simple to achieve.

"One of the best ways to wear a shimmery shadow is to blend it with one that has no frost, to balance out the texture," says makeup artist Jenny Smith.

Start by washing a matte neutral shadow from lash line to brow bone. With a darker color in the same family, create depth in the outer crease and blend outwards, then apply the frosty shadow on top. "If your shadows can be used wet or dry, slightly dampen the brush with a little bit of water, pick up the frosty shade and sweep along eyelid."

By adding water, the formula becomes similar to a cream, but with more staying power.

Black liquid liner drawn close to the upper lash line and three coats of mascara are the perfect finishing touches for this retro look. With such dramatic eyes, most makeup artists suggest keeping the rest of the face clean. But if you're feeling bold, add a punch of pink to lips or cheeks -- just not both.
