Four Steps to a New Spring Look

Want to revise your look for spring? Here's how to get started.

Brighten Up:

Makeup is making a beeline from the dark shades that ruled this winter.

Let those blood-red pouts melt with the snow and perk up your face with bright lips. Hot pinks and tangerines dominated spring runways from Diane von Furstenberg to Alice and Olivia. If these look-at-me hues are too intense for your personality, choose a gloss instead of a lipstick. The sheer quality leaves a hint of color so lips look tickled pink rather than shockingly pink.

Lighten Up:

Summer is all about glowing skin. However, when the temperature rises, a dewy finish can quickly turn into a shiny mess.

To achieve a fresh-faced complexion, opt for lightweight textures. Switch out foundation for a tinted moisturizer and replace your face cream with a moisturizing serum or lotion. You'll get all the product benefits so skin looks luminous, and the fast-absorbing formulas will save you from looking like you've been working in a grease pit.

Tone Up:

To shape up for shorts season, celebrity fitness expert David Kirsch, who trains Heidi Klum and Anne Hathaway, recommends this butt-blasting circuit:

- Squat thrusts with a medicine ball

- Forward and reverse crossover lunges

- Jump squats

- Jumping lunges

- One-legged squats with a medicine ball

Freshen Up:

The start of spring is a signal to spruce up your hair. "Over blow-drying and excessive radiator heat can cause extreme dryness," says Jill Guzzo, a stylist at Butterfly Studio Salon in New York City. For a simple way to restore blah locks, go for a gloss. Whether you DIY with an at-home version or go for a professional gloss treatment at a salon, you'll reap the same rewards: added shine, dimension and revived color.
