Venezuelan slugger Miguel Cabrera has agreed to an 8-year extension with the Detroit Tigers for $248 million that becomes completed upon passing a physical exam.

Added to the $44 million due in 2014 and 2015 under Cabrera's current contract, the deal reaches $292 million and potentially the largest in MLB history.

The 10-year, $275 million deal signed by Alex Rodriguez with the New York Yankees is presently the highest in MLB history.

Clayton Kershaw's recent deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers has the highest annual value at $30.7 million, while the extension portion of Miggy's contract has an $31 million annual value.

Frthermore, Caberera's agreement also includes two additional vesting options worth $30 million apiece for years 2011 and 2012 that could bring the total of to $352 million.

Cabrera, 30, led the majors with a .348 batting average last year and his 44 homers and 137 RBIs were both second to Baltimore's Chris Davis.

A two-time American League MVP, Cabrera is also an eight-time All-Star in 11 seasons with the Florida Marlins and the Tigers.

He's a .321 career hitter with 365 home runs and the only major league player with 100 or more RBIs in each of the past 10 seasons.

Cabrera won the Triple Crown in 2012 -- becoming the game's first player to lead either league in batting average, homers and RBIs since 1967.

Last year he became the first Tiger to win three consecutive batting titles since Ty Cobb achieved the feat from 1917 to 1919.
