Hunan Province said electricity wires in 43 counties and cities in the province are covered with ice, and traffic has been disrupted as parts of the expressways are frozen over.

Freezing rain has affected power supply to more than 10,000 households in Nanping City in east China's Fujian Province since Dec. 31, according to the Nanping Bureau of the State Grid Corporation of China.

Emergency crews have been sent to repair ice-coated power supply units in Nanping.

As of Sunday evening, the power supply to over 97 percent of affected households in the city had resumed.

The National Meteorological Center forecasts that snow and rain will continue over the next few days, and a new cold front is expected to hit the country Tuesday, bringing strong rain to south China.

Some parts of south China will also see heavy snow or snowstorms, according to the center.

Southern China will be hit by a new cold front this week, extending the country's chilliest winter in 28 years, the country's weather agency said.

Temperatures in Southern provinces including Guangdong will dip to as low as minus 5 degrees Celsius (23 degrees Fahrenheit) on Jan. 11 and 12, the China Meteorological Administration said in a statement yesterday.

Provinces including Guizhou and Hunan may experience snowstorms, it said.
