Police find 1,718 pounds of marijuana in Duluth
Acting on an anonymous tip, Gwinnett County police found 1,718 pounds of marijuana they say is worth more than $7.7 million in a house near Duluth, an Atlanta suburb. Police spokesman Cpl. David Schiralli said after getting a warrant, narcotics officers found numerous bundles of marijuana in the July 17 raid in a room at the house at 4042 Sugar Mill Drive.
FBI investigating theft of Grady medical records
Officials say the Federal Bureau of Investigation is investigating the theft of medical records of patients at Grady Memorial Hospital. Grady spokeswoman Denise Simpson provided few details on the thefts Friday. They were discovered late Thursday. She said it wasn't known how many patient records were stolen, which patients were affected or how the records were stolen. The missing records were kept on computer files.

When he reached a giant water tupelo, he twisted his body and smoothly disappeared inside. He shone a high-powered flashlight up. Twenty feet above clung a rare animal: the tiny Rafinesque's big-eared bat. Clement's graduate research about these little-understood bats has revealed a significant population of the animals in Middle Georgia's bottomland swamps.

Mega Millions jackpot now $16 million
The grand prize in the multistate Mega Millions lottery has grown to $16 million. The rollover occurred because no player matched all the winning numbers from Friday night's $12 million drawing.
Falcons lock up last of their draft picks
The Atlanta Falcons will have all of their draft picks on the field when camp opens Saturday after agreeing to terms with first-round pick Sam Baker and signing second-round pick Curtis Lofton. Baker, an offensive tackle from USC, came to an agreement Friday evening, shortly his father, David Baker, announced his resignation as commissioner of the Arena Football League. Terms of the deal were not immediately available.
